Liesl McPherrin


San Francisco–based soprano, educator, and music director Liesl McPherrin combines an active professional performing career with extensive experience teaching singers at the collegiate and pre-professional levels. A tenured member of the San Francisco Opera Chorus, she has also appeared as a soloist with the company in Dream of the Red Chamber, The (R)Evolution of Steve Jobs, Lohengrin, and Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking. She is equally committed to arts education in the community, regularly performing educational outreach productions with Livermore Valley Opera. 

As a voice professor and music director, Liesl is passionate about developing technically secure, expressive, and versatile musicians. She has taught college-level voice and music courses, coached singers in German, Italian, and Spanish diction, and music directed numerous collegiate productions. Liesl holds a Bachelor of Music from San Francisco State University and a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from Westminster Choir College, as well as certificates in German language study from Diablo Valley College and ActiLingua Academy, Vienna. She is also a trained Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), integrating breath, alignment, and body awareness into her vocal pedagogy to promote healthy, sustainable singing. She is a proud member of the American Guild of Musical Artists.
